Pastoral Coaching

There are seasons in life when we don’t need long-term therapy or a crisis intervention.

We simply need someone wise, steady, and hopeful to sit with us, help us think clearly, and take a few practical steps forward.

That’s what pastoral coaching offers.

A calm, focused space where you are listened to deeply, encouraged gently, and supported to move toward real change — one small step at a time.

At heart, this work is about hope.

Not quick fixes.
Not pressure.
But steady, meaningful progress toward wholeness.

What is pastoral coaching?

Pastoral coaching is a form of pastoral care with gentle structure.

It brings together the compassion of pastoral support with practical coaching tools that help you move forward in everyday life.

So we don’t only talk about what’s hard —
we also look for what’s possible.

Together we:

  • clarify what you really want
  • notice your strengths and resources
  • identify what’s already helping
  • take small, achievable steps
  • and build momentum over time

Many people find that as clarity grows, confidence returns — and hope begins to rise again.

What can it help with?

Pastoral coaching is especially helpful for present-day challenges such as:

• feeling overwhelmed or burnt out
• life transitions or big decisions
• feeling stuck or lacking direction
• low motivation or confidence
• unhealthy rhythms or habits
• rebuilding after a difficult season
• wanting a deeper sense of meaning or faith
• or simply needing space to think and breathe

You don’t need to have everything figured out.

You’re welcome just as you are.

What happens in a session

Sessions are relaxed, but purposeful.

We begin with you — not the problem.

We talk about what’s happening, what’s improved, and what feels most important right now.

Then, together, we look for one or two small next steps that feel realistic and life-giving.

Sometimes that means:

  • gaining perspective
  • setting gentle goals
  • working through a decision
  • learning a practical tool
  • or simply being encouraged and reminded of your strength

Each conversation is shaped around you and your situation.

Small steps often lead to surprising change.

How many sessions?

Pastoral coaching is usually short-term and focused.

Many people come for around 3–6 sessions, though this varies.

There’s no long commitment — we simply take it one step at a time.

A gentle note

Pastoral coaching is not long-term counselling or psychotherapy.

If you’re carrying deep trauma or need specialist mental-health support, I may help you find the right person to walk alongside you.

This approach works best for present-focused growth and practical change.

About me

I’m a pastor at heart with many years of experience in pastoral care, counselling, and coaching.

I developed pastoral coaching through doctoral research in practical theology, exploring how practical coaching tools can strengthen the ministry of pastoral care.

But more than methods or models, what matters most to me is simple:

to listen well,
to value each person deeply,
and to help people rediscover hope and direction.

Sessions & pricing

Common Questions

Pastoral coaching isn’t long-term counselling or psychotherapy, but it is more than simply “having a chat.”

It’s a structured, short-term form of pastoral care that uses practical, solution-focused tools to help you move forward in everyday life.

We focus mainly on the present — where you are now and what your next steps could be — rather than working deeply through the past.

If at any point it seems that specialist counselling or therapy would serve you better, I’ll gently help you find the right support.

Not at all.

People from many backgrounds — and from none — are welcome.

My approach is rooted in Christian pastoral care, which simply means I try to offer kindness, respect, encouragement, and hope to everyone I meet.

We can talk about faith or pray together if that’s meaningful to you.
If not, that’s completely fine too.

You don’t need to believe anything in particular to come.

Each session is relaxed, but purposeful.

We begin with you — not just the problem.

We talk about what’s happening in your life, what’s improved since last time, and what feels most important right now.

Then we look for small, realistic steps that could help things move in a better direction.

Sometimes we reflect.
Sometimes we plan.
Sometimes we learn a simple tool or way of thinking.
Often it’s a mixture of all three.

Most people leave with greater clarity, encouragement, and one or two practical next steps.

Pastoral coaching is usually short-term.

Many people come for around 3–6 sessions, though some need only one or two and others a little longer.

There’s no pressure or long commitment — we simply take it one step at a time and review as we go.

It can be helpful for many present-day challenges, such as:

• feeling overwhelmed or burnt out
• life transitions or decisions
• loss of direction or motivation
• rebuilding confidence
• forming healthier habits or rhythms
• relationship or work stress
• wanting greater meaning, balance, or spiritual depth
• feeling “stuck” and unsure how to move forward

If you’re unsure whether it’s right for your situation, you’re always welcome to ask.

Yes.

Our conversations are private and treated with care and respect.

The only exception would be serious concerns about your safety or someone else’s — in which case we would talk together about next steps.

A 60-minute session is £60.

I keep a few reduced-rate or scholarship spaces for those who would struggle to afford this.

If cost is a concern, please just mention it — we can talk it through.

That’s completely okay.

You don’t have to decide everything before reaching out.

You’re welcome to send a message and we can have a simple, relaxed first conversation to see whether this feels like a good fit.

No pressure. No obligation. Just a starting point.
